Sample Monthly Email - January 2008

Here are some samples of what we send out to our 'Friends of Midwest Permaculture'. Beside some general news or updates we add a 'Permaculture Hot Link' which will take the reader to someplace on the internet where we have found something we feel is extremely interesting. Remember, you can unsubscribe at any time and we never share our email addresses with anyone.    (The emails are a free educational effort of Midwest Permaculture.)                                                              Bill & Becky Wilson

Greetings Everyone,

Happy New Year to all of our ‘Friends of Midwest Permaculture’.  Here are some updates and new links…

Our New Networking Page has been Launched
Is There a Midwest Permaculture Design Course Graduate Near You?

In our attempt to assist people in finding each other, we have asked many of our graduates if they would mind posting their names, location, email addresses and photos.  If one of our graduates lives near you, you are invited to connect with them to see what might be happening in your own neighborhoods.

Permaculture Hot Link…!!!  Amazing Photos of Roof-Top Gardens
Roof-Top Gardens all the Way Up a 12 Story High-Rise Building
This link, sent to me by Chris, one of our ‘Friends of Midwest Permaculture’, blew me away.  I guess I haven’t done enough research into roof-top gardens before because when I saw these pictures I could hardly believe my eyes.  This is a high-urban environment in Japan where they were determined not to lose the green space soon to be occupied by a new high-rise business building.  No doubt, many of the plants are ornamental but with a little permaculture design, these gardens could produce enough fresh food for hundreds of people.  Remember the permaculture principle that we are only limited in yield by our own limited thinking.  There are no small thoughts here.  Hope you enjoy…

Peek in on a Bill Mollison, Permaculture-Design Course  --  January 7- 19, in Australia

Permaculture Student Sends Home Live Email Updates as She Works Her Way Through a 72-hr. Design Course with Mollison
One of our webinar students and her husband have decided to take their design-course training right from Bill Mollison and Geoff Lawton. They left for Australia this past weekend and started their course yesterday, Jan. 7th.  Since Becky and I have never been to Australia nor experienced one of Mollison’s courses, we asked Julie if she would be willing to send us some regular emails about her day-to-day experiences and impressions of the course.  We thought many of you might be interested in them as well, so we have Julie's permission to post her email correspondence along with any pictures she might send.  Click below to read her first email and to see a couple of photos she took of Bill and Geoff.

Join me Jan.  26th for our ‘3-hour Introduction to Permaculture’ Seminar (in Chicago)
Saturday Afternoon 2-5:00 p.m. with Optional Evening Meal & Conversation “The Spirituality of Permaculture”
Several of our design course graduates are working with the Sivananda Yoga Center to transform their small Chicago back yard into an inviting permaculture environment. Come learn about their plans, enjoy our 3-hour ‘Introduction to Permaculture’ seminar and stay on for a light evening meal and a follow-up conversation as we explore what the spiritual aspect of a permaculture approach to life might be. The yoga center director and I will lead this discussion.  Follow this link for more information and to pre-register for a discounted fee.

Becky and I had a wonderful holiday with all 4 of our sons making it home with their significant others.  We hope to be able to take a little time off this winter to just sit, wonder and be.  It is a great time of year to take stock of where we are (as individuals, as families and as humans) and where we can be with a little permanent-culture design in our lives.

All the best… Bill

P. S.  Registrations have already started arriving for the May and August design courses at the MREA in Wisconsin.  Here is the link if you’re interested.
