October 2006 Permaculture Design Course
PowerPoint Presentation
The October 2006 Permaculture Design Course is what inspired the creation of Midwest Permaculture. This presentation will give the viewer a good idea of:
1. What is taught in a permaculture design course.
2. What our courses are like.
3. What our students thought of their training.
Please Note: This is a large PowerPoint file and will take a minute or more to download. Once the presentation is loaded you may click anywhere on a picture to advance to the next slide. Most say it is well worth the wait.
If you do not have a PowerPoint viewer on your computer you may click here for a free downloadable program. It is a relatively small file.
"Introduction to Permaculture" 3-Hour Comprehensive Seminar
This unique 3-hour seminar has been designed to provide attendees a working grasp of what permaculture is and to provide some practical examples of how to incorporate permaculture design techniques into one's own life, property, and community.
Typically presented by Bill Wilson himself, this seminar is being offered in more and more locations, mostly scheduled in the Chicagoland and Milwaukee areas at this time. But Bill is motivated to take this seminar all around the Midwest.
This is an ideal seminar to follow Al Gore's movie, "An Inconvenient Truth". It is loaded with inspiring examples of how we can live a rich and full life without damaging our planet. This can be a great fund-raising event for your group. Contact Bill to see about bringing the seminar to your area.
Greening The Desert - (download free 5-min. video now)
Here is a great video clip that demonstrates what permaculture can do. It is free and immediately available to download now.
Click on the picture of Geoff Lawton at right. (It takes a couple of minutes to down-load.)
Geoff teaches with Bill Mollison, does design projects all over the world, and recommended Mark Shepard for a Degree in Permaculture Design after learning about the permaculture work he was undertaking on his Wisconsin farm.
Best 'Introductory' Permaculture Books
There are some good books out there that give an introduction to permaculture but these two titles continue to be our favorites—the “Intro” because it was written by Bill Mollison himself and “Gaia’s Garden” because of the clarity, simplicity and appropriateness of the examples that Toby Hemenway gives that relate to the Midwest-temperate-climate zone.

Gaia's Garden $25.00
By Toby Hemenway
Introduction to Permaculture $33.00
By Bill Mollison
Bill Mollison’s “A Designers Manual” is still considered the bible of permaculture. Mark and Wayne’s books are just about worn-out from use.
Recently, another pair of books has been released by Dave Jacke that Mark Shepard believes are the definitive for laying out permaculture plant guilds. He wondered where they were when he started his farm 12 years ago. Both of these titles are a bit more difficult to locate and cost more but are the ultimate reference books for the serious permaculturist.
